Lighter BCGs means less mass is moving rearward, and less mass means less recoil. Not only that but less mass to move rearward means less gas needed to operate the gun. Less gas means more recoil. Unlike all the people that have never even held a lightweight carrier, I've never had an issue. I've actually had better reliability with them than I did with the full weight carriers I used to use.
